About me
After losing my hearing at the age of four, I taught myself to lipread in my bedroom mirror. As a profoundly deaf person, I have lipread every day since. (Below is a picture of me aged seven, learning
to recognise lip patterns as part of my speech therapy). Although I do have some sign language, lipreading is my preferred form of communication.
As a forensic expert lipreader I have been employed to lipread CCTV, police body-worn camera, wartime footage, celebrities, footballers, the Royal Family, media events and videos where the user forgot to put the mic on. I also lipread patients with tracheotomies and people who are end of life and can no longer use their voice. It is an honour to communicate their final words to their loved ones.
I work internationally and in December 2023 I was flown to Australia to be cross examined in court at the Bruce Lehrmann defamation trial, having been hired to lipread the CCTV in the case. Lipreading evidence had never been accepted in an Australian court before so the judge’s decision to accept mine was a watershed point in Australian legal history. You can read more about this here:
